Attainable Goals

Goals are different than dreams.
One of my dreams is to hike Mount Washington in winter and see rime ice.
But my goals of preparing for that dream have been falling short as of late,
Which is why this is such a beautiful site.

Is it the prettiest sunset, or the most challenging trail?
No. In fact, the snow on the trails has started to melt and run off.
The mud sucked my crampons clean off and the pristine snow has either eroded away or doubled down into slick ice.

BUT, this is the most beautiful view I’ve seen all week, because for the first time in a month I could actually reach a summit.
Either weather, or daylight, or being stuck so far in the doldrums that I didn’t want to leave the house has kept me from my goals.
But today I got back on the trail, and took another step back in the direction of my dreams.
